I perfer to not blog on politics in the US mostly because I am rather conservative for a Free Software guy but what I have been hearing is just downright sickening.
I do not know how many people follow the current trend of Democrats around Iraq but its rather intersting. A New York Times article recently stated that it would take years to get out of Iraq. Now most Americans have known this for a long time (I guess the Democrats just couldn’t figure this out). Now many think “Oh, so this means the media supports the war” or something like that. I doubt it. Do you really think the Deomcrats would leave Iraq immediatly after getting into off? Would it make America look better? NO Would it make the US’s standing go up in the world? NO So why would they. Some say “Well their voters” but the second they withdraw (think Vietnam withdrawal but worse) they now get blamed for the mass killings that would take place and the chaos that would ensue. So what really is the NYT’s article leading to? Well nothing more then the fact that with the troop surge working (more on that in next paragraph) they need to be able to take a more neutral position on the war. When will this position change? Well not until after the primaries. Look once the primaries are over nobody can do anything to change what their position is. Suddenly all the liberals can do is vote for the guy that wants to stay in Iraq but wants to sell them free health care (mind you free health care is anything but free since its payed for by your taxes).
Now comes the 2nd issue. As i stated earlier the troop surge has been working. Anyone look at the NYT headlines? Notice a lack of Iraq cover pages? Anyone possibly wonder why that might be? Maybe just maybe its because we are starting to finally win this war! Now in a month or so General Patraus is supposed to give a briefing to congress on the progress made from the surge. Though Democrats keep stating is failing the report is supposedly guna be saying quite the opposite. Some early parts have been release and shown that militarily there have been big gains. Politically less (But its a new Democracy it will take time before they work everything out something I guess Democrats (who just happen to close votes early) don’t understand. So now we got what is going on here. So everyone thinks “oh the democrats just just guna have to face the facts.” Sadly they refuse to. Now instead of doing an open public briefing they Democrats say they want a closed briefing (really sounds like the open congress most of them ran on last election doesn’t it?).
So are Democrats really the “Champions of Free speech” and such? Nope they are quite the opposite. Their views seem much more to be “Speak freely as long as I like what you say.” Sounds oddly familiar doesnt it? Sounds kinda like something out of 1984 or the Soviet Union not the US doesn’t it? I for one doubt I will be voting for Democrats in their current state. I personally like freedom of speech and the idea that the government can’t tell me what to do. I can only hope others wake up to this harsh reality before its to late I really don’t want to see an One party system here.
