So this is one of those things that not many people realize. The fact that even Firefox which many times is harolded by people as a great Open Source project still has some major flaws. One of these is it does not support Open Standards as well as some other Open Source projects (example: Konquorer) and some Closed Source ones (example: Opera). For those who don’t know what Khtml is its the base webkit that Konquorer is made on and so anyone running a current version of KDE (3.5.6) will know how nice this browser is. In standards its one of the best. Bellow are the tests which I ran
Firefox: 43 selectors 26 have passed, 10 are buggy and 7 are unsupported (Passed 357 out of 578 tests)
onqueror: 43 selectors 43 have passed, 0 are buggy and 0 are unsupported (Passed 578 out of 578 tests)
Internet Explorer 7: 43 selectors 13 have passed, 4 are buggy and 26 are unsupported (Passed 330 out of 578 tests)
Now these tests can all be redone mearly by going to css3 and running it within the browser. I don’t have Opera running on any of my computers right now so I didn’t test it. Now if you think this is an isolated incedent then I will point your attention to another major test. That being the Acid2 Browser test which Khtml also passes (I even ran it just before righting this to check).
So what exactly does this all mean? Well the main thing I think it shows is that its far better to be running a Khtml web browser in order to see the internet the way its supposed to be seen and by that I mean the Open way and not the Microsoft way.
