Now I don’t know how many people have actually heard of Microsoft’s application OnePoint. I am guessing not many since it has not been packaged with office until 2007. It is a great Note Taking app.
Well now those of us who use GNU/Linux have an app that is on the level of OneNote. The thing is like OneNote which came out in a 03 version and only now is mainstream really with the 2007 version BasKet 1.0 is almost done but it still lacks a image manager (really not a big problem) but they plan to have that in the program in time for BasKet 2 which is guna be released with KDE 4. This not only will be in GNU/Linux though but will also be running on Windows and Mac OSX so it will be a real rival to OneNote.
This is by far the most useful note taking tool I have ever used. Mind you I used OneNote and it was good but this tool is just as good and free. It also is integrated int Kontact which makes it a nice addition there. As for what it can be used for when it comes to taking notes it literally does everything well except image manipulations (only until 2.0 though). One of the nicest features I found is that you can even export your baskets as an html webpage which makes a nice way to share the notes when you think about it. If you are a GNU/Linux user that likes KDE I would advise you to try this application if you feel you need a good note taking app.
BasKet version 1 was released today to get it goto http://basket.kde.org
